Conference on "Spatial Configurations: Canada and India"
November 16 – 17, 2012
The recession that shook stable and emerging economies,
political upheavals, and expression of dissent for equity in
wealth distribution certainly has a bearing on the way we use
the space we inhabit. All these have far reaching implications
in social, economic and cultural relations between India and
Canada. The need at present is to interrogate the kind of spaces
we produce to live for generations to come. The world in which
we live gets defined and modified by our interaction with other
human beings across boundaries.
This International Conference seeks to explore how different
kinds of spaces are produced in India and Canada. The
recognition of commonalities and differences in the shaping of
such spaces indicate the kind of world we create for the future.
These areas provide ample scope for interdisciplinary
deliberations and have a bearing on one another; they all work
on the grid of relationships. A conference of this nature will
go a long way in giving a fresh thrust to research across
disciplines and a richer understanding of the spaces we inhabit.
In the context of the special kind of relationship between India
and Canada, some thrust areas have been identified for
deliberations which include:
Peace Studies
International Relations
Social Space
Literary and Cultural Studies
Environment and Technology
Heritage Studies
Economics and Globalization
Third Sector
Human Rights
Performance Studies
